urricane Erin is causing widespread beach closures along the East Coast, with dangerous surf and strong rip currents affecting areas from Florida all the way up to Massachusetts. In response to the growing threat, North Carolina’s Governor has declared a State of Emergency—especially mindful of the destruction left by Hurricane Helene the previous year. Although Erin isn’t expected to hit the U.S. mainland directly, its outer bands could still bring heavy rain and gusty winds to the Outer Banks, where warnings for tropical storms and storm surges remain in place.
