Shocking Baltimore hit-and-run! Jerome Allan Young Jr., a 26-year-old Amazon delivery driver from Baltimore County, ran over 29-year-old Chelsey Douglas with a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van at the intersection of East Pratt and South Chester Streets in Baltimore’s Butchers Hill neighborhood, as captured on a harrowing Ring doorbell camera video that went viral. According to charging documents, Douglas, who was crossing the street, fell in the crosswalk and was struck when the light turned green, sustaining nine broken ribs and five fractured vertebrae; Young briefly stopped, asked her, “How did you manage to get hit?” before fleeing the scene, leading to his arrest on February 20 after turning himself in. Initially facing felony charges like first-degree assault, these were dropped by Baltimore State’s Attorney Ivan Bates for lack of evidence of intent, leaving Young with misdemeanor traffic citations, 45 days of home detention, 45 days of incarceration, and two years of supervised probation, as sentenced on April 21, 2025. Douglas, who forgave Young, citing his panic, continues her recovery, while the incident, reported by The Baltimore Banner and CBS Baltimore, has sparked debates over driver accountability and pedestrian safety at dangerous intersections.
