Watching this video for the first time, I couldn't believe it was real

But no, the clip shows an actual approach.

A cargo Boeing 737-300 of Intra Asia Airlines is landing at Paro Airport, Bhutan. The video was shot on July 12, 2021, at the height of the COVID epidemic, and the plane was carrying a shipment of vaccines for the Kingdom of Bhutan.

I think this is one of the worst landings I have seen. The pilots ignore all warnings, continuing a clearly unstable approach, while still managing to film on their phones. By some miracle, they manage to land safely, although with a heavy overload.

Of course, it’s not all so straightforward; Paro Airport is one of the most challenging airports in the world. The airport is located deep in a valley at an altitude of 2235 m above sea level and surrounded by mountains up to 5500 m high. Flights to Paro are only allowed in good visibility and are limited to daylight hours from sunrise to sunset.

But none of this changes the fact that flying like this is unacceptable, and of course, the aircraft commander should have gone around for a second attempt.

Beautiful airplanes ✈️
