Should More Fighters Take the Canelo Alvarez & Terence Crawford Route?

Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford will make the most money they've made in their career fighting each other. Rumor has it that Crawford will make 70 million dollars. Canelo is rumored to make $100-million dollars.

Neither Canelo nor Terence Crawford has confirmed these rumored payouts, but they are being reported on social media. Both Canelo and Crawford are free agents.

Both Crawford and Canelo have their own promotional companies. They are first-ballot Hall of Famers who respect each other. Crawford has finally landed the big-name fights with Errol Spence and Canelo Alvarez.

What I like about this matchup is that both fighters are free agents who are dealing directly with the plug, Turkey Alashikh. By dealing directly with the financier, Crawford and Canelo don't have to deal with the politics of boxing promoters, managers, advisors, and networks.

This is how it should be in today's boxing. For years, promotional companies like the PBC, Golden Boy, and Top Rank have all played a part in gate-keeping.

This prevents big fights from happening in the name of loyalty, the wrong side of street politics, and different networks. In my opinion, the best thing that happened in America is that Networks like HBO, Showtime, Fox, and ESPN have folded like lawn chairs.

With the networks pulling out of boxing, the American promotional companies don't have a budget to make fights. They now have to either raise their own money, work with other promoters to make big fights, or deal directly with Turki Alashikh.

If you're a fighter, why should you deal with a promoter when you can deal directly with the money man in Turki Alashikh? If you're a fighter, there is no incentive to depend on the old, conventional ways of making fights anymore.

Crawford let it be known that he wanted Canelo next, and Turki Alashikh made the fight happen. Both fighters are being paid handsomely for their skills.

If you're a fighter in today's time, and you're on the way to becoming a free agent. Why would you sign with a promoter? Terence Crawford and Canelo Alvarez have broken the mold in America.

More fighters should take the Canelo and Crawford route. Especially if you're looking for the big fights for the biggest payday, should more fighters take the Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford route?
