Truth Denied.
The Cruelty of Denying Another Person Their Truth.
To deny another person their truth is not simply an act of disagreement — it is an act of erasure. It takes away the dignity of lived experience and replaces it with a falsehood designed to humiliate, discredit, or control. At its core, it is a weapon wielded by those who cannot cope with another’s achievements, resilience, or perspective.
Take, for example, the relentless efforts of YouTube trolls Danny West and Chris Brindle to deny me one of the most important truths of my life: my service as a Royal Military Policeman. Becoming a member of the Royal Military Police is no small feat. It requires discipline, character, and commitment — qualities that most will never fully grasp. For me, it remains one of my proudest achievements, a cornerstone of my identity and personal history. And yet, through lies, accusations, and smear tactics, trolls like West and Brindle attempt to strip me of that truth, as if rewriting history to suit their own twisted narratives.
But this kind of denial does not end with military service. It extends further into the present, whereas my truth as a victim of a prolific trolling gang is constantly undermined. Even when Shellie Mote — once close to the very ring-leader of the harassment campaign — acknowledged publicly that I am indeed targeted by a well-organised group of trolls, that reality is immediately denied and cast into doubt. Nameless and faceless commentators, hiding behind pseudonyms, dismiss the evidence and gaslight the victim, forcing me to constantly defend myself against fabricated counterclaims.
To deny another their truth is to deny their humanity. It strips a person of their right to stand firmly in their own experience. It is a psychological attack, designed to weaken confidence, corrode reputation, and isolate the target. Worse still, it turns the victim’s own identity into a battleground, where achievements, struggles, and even pain are treated as lies to be exposed rather than realities to be respected.
This is the insidious power of trolling: it is not content with simple mockery or criticism. Instead, it seeks to unmake a person, to turn pride into shame, and to twist truth into fiction. When my service as a Royal Military Policeman is mocked or denied, the trolls are not simply attacking me — they are attacking the idea that truth itself matters. When my victimhood at the hands of an organised trolling network is ridiculed or ignored, they are not just targeting one man — they are reinforcing a culture where abuse is normalised and where the silencing of voices is accepted.
To deny another person their truth is an act of profound cruelty. It is a form of violence that leaves no visible scars but deep psychological wounds. In a just society, everyone has the right to their truth, especially when it concerns their own life, their own story, and their own achievements. To deny that is to deny freedom itself.
