My name is Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter and I was born on September 4, 1981, in Houston, Texas, to my parents, Tina Knowles, a talented fashion designer, and Mathew Knowles, an entertainment executive who guided my early career. Growing up in Houston with my younger sister, Solange, who’s also carved her own path as a successful recording artist, I found my passion for performing early on. As a young girl, I sang in church choirs and competed in local talent shows, eventually forming a group called Girls Tyme, which later became Destiny’s Child.
In the late 1990s, I rose to fame as the lead vocalist of Destiny’s Child, and we achieved massive success with albums like The Writing’s on the Wall and Survivor. Those years were exhilarating, but I was ready to explore my own voice. In 2003, I released my debut solo album, Dangerously in Love, which included my hit single “Crazy in Love” featuring Jay-Z, who I married in 2008. That album was just the beginning. Over the years, I’ve poured my heart into creating music, releasing critically acclaimed albums like my surprise visual album Beyoncé in 2013 and Lemonade in 2016, which became a defining moment in my career, reflecting both personal and cultural stories.
Beyond music, I’ve embraced acting, starring in films like Dreamgirls, Austin Powers in Goldmember, and The Fighting Temptations. I’m also a proud mother to my three children—Blue Ivy, Rumi, and Sir—and I co-own the luxury fashion brand House of Deréon with my mom, Tina. My journey has been one of hard work and passion, and I’m honored to be recognized as one of the greatest entertainers in history, with 35 Grammy Awards, the most awarded in Grammy history.
