Since the destruction of the Jewish Temple by the Romans in 70 AD, Orthodox Jews have wanted to rebuild the temple in Jerusalem.

But there are several major hindrances to this, including the fact that the Jordanian Waqf currently controls the Temple Mount. There are two Muslim buildings on the site including the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock.

However, the Temple Institute in Israel has been making preparations for the construction of the third temple. This includes manufacturing most of the furniture for the Temple and as well training priests.

In 2022, the Institute brought over five red heifers from America. A red heifer is needed as part of the purification ritual for the priests.

Recently, a group of Orthodox Jews also conducted a practice round of the red heifer sacrifice in preparation for the eventual sacrifice.
