You're Gonna Need More than One!

I have always told my classes and clients that you must treat the act of improving your balance the same as you would if you were trying to learn a new language or a salsa step. The more you practice, the better you get! You can't come to class once a week and expect to reduce your risk for an unintended fall. I have a "golden rule" when it comes to reducing your chances for a fall, or simply improving your overall health and fitness. The rule is this... Try to do something everyday, but NEVER let more than two days pass without doing something.

In this video, I go over research that was done with five women and five men to see how much improvement they would see in their balance by completing one session. The session consisted of the test subjects walking on a treadmill and being interrupted 32 times. The tread would stop and start, speed up and slow down in an attempt to get the participants to stumble and/or fall. Then, they were tested to see how much improvement would be gained after the one session. You may or may not be surprised by the results!
