Grace Schara was the 19 year old daughter of Scott and Cindy Schara and sister
to Jessica
On the 6th of October 2021, Grace was taken to a hospital in Wisconsin having
tested positive for covid. The hospital is run by Ascension Health. Grace was given
a cocktail of drugs including Precedex, Lorazepam and Morphine which ultimately
killed her.
Over 900 pages of notes were concealed by the hospital initially when Scott
Schara requested Graces records. These pages revealled that both on the 8th and
the 9th of October Grace sufferred an overdose from Precedex unbeknownst to
her family.
On the 10th of October Scott Schara was escorted out of the hospital being
replaced a few days later by Graces sister Jessica
On October 13th the hospital ordered 40% higher dosage of Precedex
and 50 % higher dose of Lorazepam then added morphine to that
mix in a 26 minute window. In spite of Jessicas pleas to save Grace, no Naloxone
was given to reverse the morphine. This could have saved Graces life, but there
was an illegal Do Not Resuscitate Order (DNR) placed on Graces file without the
Schara families knowledge.
A court case of Schara versus Ascension Health was concluded in June 2025.
1 Wrongful death
2 Lack of informed consent
3 Medical malpractice
4 Declaritory judgment for the illegal do not resuscitate order
5 Medical battery. This was dismissed by the judge pre trial.
During the trial Scott Schara was painted as an antivaxer and a conspiracy theorist,
leading to a bias towards Ascension Health.
Dr Berdine, a critical care respiratory therapist, testified as to the egregious nature
of the drug cocktail given to Grace. But this fell on deaf ears, as Ascension Health
brought in 5 doctors to testify as to the contrary.
Graces family had power of attorney and the fact that all family members were
pleading for the nurses to save Grace, should have nullified the Do Not Resuscitate
order. But this was not the case. This fact was not discussed in the trial.
Unfortunately the jury sided with Ascension Health.
