Zorro inspired many of the popular pulp heroes that followed him. From Batman to The Shadow and beyond.
One of the striking departures that began with another hero, The Scarlet Pimpernel, was the wealthy, but secretive, benefactor vigilante. Robin Hood stole from the wealthy. He was not wealthy.
Zorro, along with Pimpernel, were landed gentlemen, and their evolution to vigilantes inspired the creators who would use them as starting points for their own inventions.
But, why wouldn't someone as fantastically wealthy as Jeff Bezos become a vigilante serving justice to wrongdoers? Perhaps, given Bezos' stunning transformation, we should question him.
