Sheriff on Brady List? Why most people don’t know, and why they should

You probably pay attention when a sheriff wins an election, or when some local official does something extraordinary. But what if that same sheriff was quietly placed on a Brady List, labeling him as untrustworthy? That’s exactly what happened to Deschutes County Sheriff Kent van der Kamp. A district attorney found he repeatedly lied under oath about his education and work history, placing him on a list prosecutors ethically cannot trust in court.

This isn’t just a development for law nerds, it’s a warning sign for every citizen who trusts the criminal justice system. The Brady List, mandated by Brady v.
