Day 227 – The Potter’s Hands and the Call to Return — Jeremiah 16–18 | Bible In A Year (CSB)

God commands Jeremiah to live as a sign to the people, showing that judgment is near and life will be disrupted. Yet, amid warnings, He paints the picture of the potter shaping clay—reminding Israel that He has the power to reshape their future if they will repent. These chapters weave together the certainty of God’s justice and the hope of His mercy for those who turn back to Him.

Questions:
1. In Jeremiah 16, God forbids Jeremiah from marrying as a prophetic sign. How does this unusual command highlight the seriousness of the coming judgment?

2. The potter’s work in Jeremiah 18 shows God’s power to reshape a nation’s destiny. What does this image teach us about His patience and sovereignty?

3. In chapter 17, God contrasts those who trust in man with those who trust in Him. How can we recognize when our confidence has shifted away from God in our own lives?
