Tonight we are watching Smokey & The Bandit 2 celebrating it’s 45th anniversary of release today August 15th, 1980

Because of this, I am rearranging the schedule for Smokey & The Bandit & we’ll reschedule Cannonball Run 2 for the next 80s night…this anniversary of the film is too good of opportunity to pass up. If the video selections are ‘Cannonball-centric’…that is why…I didn’t know until a few hours before the stream and decided to rearrange the show.

The channel will go on a brief one-week hiatus after this show. I’ll be producing ‘new’ documentary material & I’ll talk about that briefly.

Tonight I will be taking you back to the 80s & ‘rebooting’ an old episode of Friday Night Videos which was basically MTV for us poor country folk who didn’t have cable or know someone with a huge satellite dish in their backyard. If you didn’t have ‘premium TV’ available, Friday Night Videos on NBC was basically your ‘one’ way to get the latest music videos on tape…if you were lucky enough to have a VCR. I was living on the farm in the middle of the sticks in 1985…but before that, from 1982-1985, we could go to my grandfather’s house & watch MTV.

As part of a regular series, I’ll be recreating setlists from old episodes of Friday Night Videos to the best of my ability…or get it pretty close. You’ll at least get the bands listed in the intro & most from the era seen on the screen…I do my best to ‘recreate’ the specific window of time in the 80s without going crazy with it. You’ll see ‘real commercials’ & news updates from the 80s for those of you who are nostalgic for the era like I am.
