Marijuana is now legal in many places of the world today but it wasn't back then. A lot of their music is fighting back against oppression and what was wrong 50 years ago has now been accepted in the same way alcohol has been accepted for centuries.

5:17 "I hear you, We never look past this, a miracle" which I believe is a sign of some kind of feedback that they had received from a connection to the spiritual world.
