FOX5 WTTG Washington DC 17-hour Continuous News Coverage, September 11, 2001 | 07h08 - 23h59 (07:08 A.M. - 11:59 AM) EDT
Featuring Lark McCarthy, Amanda Bergen, Michael Gargiulo, Tom Sater, et al.
There are numerous short and longer clips of all kind of news coverage on the internet. By editing this continuous coverage, I tried to give viewers an impression of the whole. Also a feeling of actual time.
Talking about 'time', please note: There is something extremely unusual in this live news coverage. For many many decades already, TV and radio stations have been broadcasting a time signal. At a time when smartphones and GPS had not yet been available, people had been heavily relying on this time signal. However, WTTG's time signal on that day was OFF by about + 8 seconds.
There is only one official time in the United States, and it is provided by the United States Naval Observatory (USNO) Master Clock. Back in 2001, it was broadcast thru the Digital Time Code of NIST's WWV /WWVB radio station. TV and radio stations captured and relayed this signal. There sometimes was a minor tolerance, usually fractions of a second, since a signal also must travel. But as far as I know, no studio clock had never been off by 8 seconds.
Therefore, this coverage actually starts at 07;08 AM EDT, even though the WTTG studio clock shows 07h00 AM. Thank you for taking this into consideration.
Feel free and also compare with Z104's studio clock (WWZZ) when Michael Gargiulo is reporting on Z104's 'McDonald's Morning Drive with Dylan & Erin' @ 01:38:19 into this video. The studio clock on the wall behind Z104's General Manager Mark O'Brien shows the correct official US time.
Dedicated to the Lives lost on September 11, 2001, and in the aftermath of that day. May they rest in Peace.
Dedicated also to those who survived September 11, 2001.
A tribute to the first responders, their rescue efforts to save and protect lives, and their personal sacrifices.
And a special tribute also to the journalists who did an extraordinary job to inform the public, and this under most difficult conditions.
Thank you all.
And thank you for taking the time to inform yourself.
