Jesus sends out the 70 to prepare the way for Him

Jesus sends the 70 to prepare the way for Him. Yet, the Spirit prepares the hearts of the people before the disciples get there to prepare the way for Him.
God does it all, doesn't He? And why? What does He get out of it? Me and you. Seems like He is getting the short end of the stick compared to all the work He has put into it.
