"Sultan Mehmed II: The Man Who Changed History"
Sultan Mehmed II (1432 – 1481), also known as Mehmed the Conqueror (Fatih Sultan Mehmed in Turkish), was the 7th Sultan of the Ottoman Empire. He ascended the throne twice, first at age 12 and then in 1451. His most famous achievement came in 1453, when he captured Constantinople (modern-day Istanbul), ending the Byzantine Empire and making the city the new Ottoman capital. This victory earned him the title Fatih (“The Conqueror”).
A visionary leader and skilled strategist, Mehmed II modernized the army, promoted trade, and welcomed scholars, artists, and scientists, making Istanbul a thriving center of culture. Fluent in several languages, he was also known for his interest in philosophy, architecture, and governance. His reign marked the transformation of the Ottoman state into a powerful empire that would dominate Southeast Europe, Western Asia, and North Africa for centuries.
