Prescious Roy Home Shopping Network: Pocket Rancher
The Sifl and Olly Show is a comedy television series that features sock puppets, animation, and musical performances, created and performed by musicians Liam Lynch and Matt Crocco.
The show aired on MTV from July 14, 1998, to 1999, spanning three seasons.
It was known for its surreal humor, adult themes, profanity, sexual references, drug innuendo, crude humor, bodily functions, and violence, and was not intended for children.
The two main characters are Sifl, a black sock puppet with yellow, reptilian eyes and green, plastic sunflower leaves for hair, who is portrayed as the calm leader and often manipulative, and Olly, a white sock puppet who is more excitable and prone to crazed outbursts.
Their assistant, Chester, is a mumbling, often nonsensical character who claims to be great at everything.
The show's format included various segments such as "Precious Roy's Home Shopping Netwerk," a parody of the Home Shopping Network featuring bizarre products; "Calls from the Public," where the duo took calls from random and often bizarre characters; "Interview Time," featuring interviews with unusual guests like Death or an atom; "S & O News," where they reported on surreal news; and "A Word with Chester," where they spoke with their friend Chester.
The show originated from the 1980s when Lynch and Crocco, who were childhood friends, created and performed funny songs and sketches.
They reunited in Nashville, Tennessee, in the 1990s and recorded the comedy album Camp Sunny Side Up.
In 1995, Lynch, inspired by British commercials, created the puppets from his own socks and a large plastic sunflower, recording a video using the material they had collected.
The clips gained popularity on MTV Europe, leading to MTV America commissioning a half-hour format in 1998.
Despite its cult following, the show was cancelled after the second season, though a third season was recorded and later released on DVD.
The characters, along with new material, currently appear on Liam Lynch's podcast, Lynchland.
Fans of the show are known as "sockheads".
The show has a dedicated fanbase, with online groups petitioning for a full DVD release and organizing conventions.
The series has been praised for its unique humor, with some fans calling it genius.
The show's influence extends to other creators, with cartoonist Aaron McGruder and writer J. Michael Straczynski being noted fans.
