To Entertain or Be Entertained? That Is the Question.

It’s a choice I face almost every day — and I bet you do too, in your own way.
The kettle’s boiled, the coffee’s poured, and the day stretches out in front of me. No urgent meetings. No burning deadlines. Just me, my thoughts, and the endless buffet of entertainment that’s only a click away.
I can flick on the TV and be entertained, or… I can fire up my camera, hit that “Go Live” button, and be the entertainment.
It’s the modern version of Shakespeare’s famous question — not “To be or not to be,” but “To entertain or be entertained?”
The Easy Option.
Being entertained is comfortable. You sit back. You let the story happen to you. You choose your flavour — comedy, drama, action, documentaries. You laugh at someone else’s joke, feel someone else’s tension, ride someone else’s emotional rollercoaster.
There’s nothing wrong with it. Sometimes you need to recharge. Sometimes you just want to be the audience, to let the world turn without you needing to push it.
The Bold Option.
But then there’s the other choice — to entertain.
That’s where the adrenaline kicks in. Going live on YouTube isn’t just pressing a button. It’s stepping into a role. Suddenly, you’re not consuming the moment — you’re creating it. Every word, every reaction, every interaction with your chat is you building an experience for someone else.
It’s a bigger risk. The audience might love you or they might scroll past in seconds. You might have ten people watching, or ten thousand. But when you choose to entertain, you take ownership of the moment.
The Balancing Act.
The truth is, I do both. Some days I’m the performer, dancing in the light. Other days I’m the spectator, soaking in the work of others. The magic is in knowing which one you need that day.
So tomorrow morning, when you’re holding your coffee, ask yourself: Will I watch the show… or be the show?
Because in this wired-up, always-on, infinitely connected world… the choice is yours. And that, my friends, is the question.
