Shroud Wars: The D’Arcis Memo & the Bibliographical Test Challenge for Hugh Farey

Bring it on Hugh! Hugh Farey has recently taken it upon himself to threaten to bring out his “big guns” in response to my latest Shroud review refuting the Godless Engineer by writing up a Blog post on the infamous D’Arcis Memorandum.

At one point I probed Hugh for actual evidence that the only two folio manuscripts of the D’Arcis Memo in existence are both actually original autographs instead of later manuscript copies (given that our earliest explicit mention of the folios themselves only comes in ca. 1877). Should the two folios extant today not be the originals, but are later manuscripts dating after the 14th century, then its plausible to suggest that perhaps there can be any number of unknown transcription/scribal errors and/or interpolations in the two extant folio manuscripts vs. what the original autograph itself actually said.

Despite various potential ways to establish such a claim evidentially, Hugh had nothing more than insults and mindless dismissal to offer in response on my YouTube comments and so I hereby challenge him to write a Blog proving his claims regarding the folios specifically and to present sound reason and evidence for his claim that the two extant folios of the Memo are, in fact, the originals as written by D’Arcis himself (or his scribe) back in 1389-1390 A.D.

Of course, even if Hugh is successful in meeting this challenge, the D’Arcis Memo still suffers from all the other criticisms and objections already raised by Pro-Shroud historians and experts who assume that D’Arcis did write the Memo as we see it today in the folios.

Over to you Hugh!
