Historic Progress in U.S. Immigration Policy
In an exclusive interview with Jim Hoft for Gateway Pundit, J.D. Vance spoke candidly about the current U.S. government approach to illegal immigration and deportations. He acknowledged that both he and President Trump want to see a significant increase in deportations but admitted that legal and judicial obstacles have made this process difficult, as courts have blocked many immigration actions at every step.
Vance emphasized that only recently has the government been able to secure enough resources to hire the necessary number of ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) agents to confront what he called a “massive invasion” of up to 20 million people crossing the border. This reflects an acknowledgment of the logistical and operational challenges that immigration enforcement in the United States presents, which has often been underestimated or politicized.
Despite these challenges, Vance highlighted an important fact: in 2025, the country is expected to experience its first negative net migration figure in 50 years. This means that, for the first time in half a century, more illegal immigrants are leaving the country than entering it, which he considers a legitimate cause for celebration. This remigration suggests that some border control policies, deportations, and deterrent measures are beginning to have a tangible effect.
However, Vance warned that the effort must continue and the pressure must not be relaxed. He sharply criticized those, mainly on the political left, who downplay these achievements or, worse, try to block immigration policies through sham impeachments and legal attacks against the current government. According to Vance, this opposition spreads misinformation and obstructs effective progress in border management.
Additionally, Vance called for maintaining high ethical and accountability standards within the government but also for recognizing and celebrating achievements when they occur. In his view, progress on immigration and other parts of the presidential agenda is real and significant, and deserves to be recognized as a step forward in the fight for national security and sovereignty.
In summary, Vance’s statements reflect a pragmatic and combative stance: an acknowledgment of the legal and operational challenges facing immigration enforcement, the value of recent advances in reducing net illegal migration, and the need to remain firm against political opposition to continue strengthening borders and immigration policies.
