Internal Threats and Defending Freedom in the US

In an exclusive interview with Jim Hoft for Gateway Pundit, Vice President J.D. Vance was blunt in stating that the greatest threat to the security of the United States does not come from foreign powers like China or Russia, but from what he calls "the deep state" and the most subversive elements within the country itself. According to Vance, what should truly alarm Americans is that Joe Biden is trying to imprison Donald Trump or his supporters for having the "wrong political opinions," which he considers a far more serious threat than any action by a foreign adversary. He warned that the idea that someone could be silenced, jailed, or even attacked for dissenting against the institutional agenda of the far left is something everyone must fight against and ultimately defeat, emphasizing that Trump is a leader who says and does what he believes is necessary regardless of pressure.

In his speech at the Munich Security Conference (February 2025), Vance expanded his view by stating that “the real threat to democracy” is not beyond the borders but in the erosion of fundamental values such as freedom of speech and tolerance for dissent within the countries themselves. He labeled this as the threat from within and warned that Europe is also suffering from this decline. At the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC 2025), he identified mass migration as the greatest risk to both the United States and Europe, criticizing the influx of “millions of unvetted immigrants” and warning that peace cannot be built by ignoring its consequences.

On geopolitical matters, Vance argued that U.S. foreign policy should be focused on the Indo-Pacific region, considering China the main global challenge, and called on Europe to take greater responsibility for its own defense so that the U.S. can concentrate on East Asia. He has also been critical of American universities, describing them as hostile institutions that serve as strongholds of the liberal elite and that mislead and shape public discourse in a biased manner.

On all these fronts, Vance delivers a clear message: defend democracy against internal threats, control migration, reorient global strategy toward Asia, and confront directly the elites who have distorted the values and identity of the West.
