Why Battle of Badr is important in Islam?

Brothers, sisters, friends and elders Assalamu Alaikum, wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu, we are presenting the 132th episode of the Islamic informative video based on healing and events from the Holy Quran, and in this video we will describe, Why Battle of Badr is important in Islam?

The Battle of Badr holds a central and revered place in Islamic history due to its profound spiritual, political, and military significance. Fought on the 17th of Ramadan in the second year after Hijrah (624 CE), it was the first major battle between the Muslims of Madinah and the Quraysh of Makkah. Despite being outnumbered and under-equipped, the Muslims emerged victorious, and this victory was not only a turning point for the early Muslim community but also a powerful demonstration of Allah’s support for His believers. The Qur'an addresses this event in Surah Al-Anfal verse 5–19, emphasizing both the divine strategy behind the battle and the moral and spiritual lessons it offers.

Allah describes the situation by saying:

Just as your Lord brought you out of your home for the truth, even though a party among the believers disliked it. Surah Al-Anfal (8:5)

This verse highlights that even though some believers were hesitant about facing such a powerful army, Allah’s will and plan were being executed. The believers were about 313 in number, facing a Qurayshi army of over 1,000, yet Allah turned their fear into confidence through signs of divine support. The battle was a test of faith, trust, and patience, meant to distinguish truth from falsehood.

Allah further reminds the Muslims of His favor during the battle:

Quran said in Surah Al-Anfal verse 9
"Remember when you called upon your Lord for help, and He responded to you: 'Indeed, I will reinforce you with a thousand angels following one another.'"

This verse emphasizes how the Prophet (PBUH) and his companions made sincere du‘a before the battle. Their victory came not because of military strength, but due to divine intervention. In fact, the Qur’an affirms the arrival of angels as support for the believers in Surah Al-Anfal verse 10:

"And Allah only made it as a glad tiding and so that your hearts would be assured by it. And victory is not but from Allah."

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) himself demonstrated the utmost sincerity and reliance on Allah before the battle. He spent the night before Badr in prayer and supplication, raising his hands and crying out:

Sahih Muslim, Hadith 1779
"O Allah! Fulfill for me what You have promised. O Allah! If this small group is destroyed, You will not be worshipped on earth."

The Qur’an also reflects on the way Allah orchestrated the events leading up to the battle. in Surah Al-Anfal verse 42 Allah says:

"And [remember] when you were on the near side of the valley, and they were on the farther side, and the caravan was below you. Had you made an appointment [to meet], you would have missed the appointment. But [it was] so that Allah might accomplish a matter already destined.

This verse shows how what appeared to be a coincidental encounter was in fact divinely preordained to give victory to the believers and strike fear into the hearts of the Quraysh. The Battle of Badr proved that the Muslim community, though small, was guided by divine support and truth.

Furthermore, the battle had long-term implications. It established the Muslims as a political force in Arabia and gave legitimacy to the Prophet’s (PBUH) leadership in Madinah. It also shattered the myth of Qurayshi invincibility. This victory gave confidence to the Muslims and brought many to accept Islam. Allah emphasizes that this was the day when truth triumphed over falsehood, said in Surah Al-Anfal verse 19):

"If you ask for a decision – the decision has come to you. And if you desist, it is better for you... But if you turn away, then know that Allah is your protector. The best protector and the best helper."

In summary, the Battle of Badr is important because it was a divinely planned event that showcased the power of faith, unity, and reliance on Allah. It marked the beginning of Muslim strength in Arabia and remains a reminder that victory comes only from Allah, not from numbers or weapons. The Qur’an and Hadith both reinforce the spiritual and historical importance of Badr as a symbol of divine support for the righteous.

With this, we ask for your permission until tomorrow and pray to Allah Almighty to grant us the ability to act on the Quran and Hadith, Amen

Allah Hafiz
