Revelation Promises for Those Who Overcome

In Revelation 2 and 3, Jesus shares promises for those individuals who victoriously overcome. Repeatedly, Jesus says, "To the one who is victorious". The Greek word used here for victorious is nikao which means "to conquer, to prevail". Conquer means "to successfully overcome". Prevail means "prove more powerful than opposing forces; be victorious."

As followers of Christ, we are constantly battling opposing forces as Apostle Paul tells us in Ephesians 6:12,

"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms."

In Revelation, Jesus sends messages to the 7 churches to encourage them to overcome the opposing forces of evil. He instructs them to repent of their sins, to be faithful, to persevere, to remember what they have received and heard, to hold onto the truth of God, to hold onto their crowns, to hear his voice and open the door.

With each encouragement, Jesus shares the promises that await those who victoriously overcome:

Revelation 2:7, To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to eat from the tree of life.

Revelation 2:11, The one who is victorious will not be hurt at all by the second death.

Revelation 2:17, To the one who is victorious, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give that person a white stone with a new name written on it.

Revelation 2:26-28, To the one who is victorious and does my will to the end, I will give authority over the nations...just as I have received authority from my Father. I will also give that one the morning star.

Revelation 3:5, The one who is victorious will be dressed in white. I will never blot out the name of that person from the book of life.

Revelation 3:12, The one who is victorious I will make a pillar in the temple of my God... I will write on them the name of my God and the name of the city of my God...and I will also write on them my new name.

Revelation 3:21, To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne.

Those are powerful promises! And God has ensured that we will be victorious in order to attain all of those promises! He never tells us to do something that He hasn't already given us the power to accomplish.

We read in 1 John 4:4, "You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world."

God has placed His Spirit within us to give us the power, the strength, the wisdom and the understanding to overcome the world and be victorious over the dark spiritual forces of evil.

We read in 1 John 5:4-5, "Everyone born of God overcomes the world and we achieve this victory through our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God."

We achieve the victory through our faith and that faith is as simple as believing that Jesus is the Son of God.

God has given us the power of His Spirit. God has revealed His Son to us. God has provided everything we need to overcome as we read in 2 Peter 1:3,

"His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness."

We only need to believe it and apply that power to stand firm in God's Truth to the end. God created us to be victorious through His Son as Apostle Paul teaches in 1 Corinthians 15:57-58,

"Thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you."

Let us live confidently in that victory and overcome the world. And when we have finished the race, we will partake of the Tree of Life, we will eat of the hidden manna, we will be given a white stone with a new name, we will be given nations, we will be given the morning star, we will be dressed in white, we will be crowned with Glory, we will be given all of God's blessings and walk with Him for all eternity.
