Xi Jinping, born June 15, 1953, in Beijing, is China’s president and Communist Party leader. Son of revolutionary Xi Zhongxun, he faced hardship when his father was purged during the Cultural Revolution. Sent to rural Liangjiahe for manual labor, he developed resilience and joined the Communist Party in 1974. A Tsinghua University graduate in chemical engineering, Xi rose through provincial leadership in Hebei, Fujian, Zhejiang, and Shanghai. In 2007, he entered the Politburo Standing Committee, becoming Vice President in 2008 and President in 2013. His rule features anti-corruption drives, the Belt and Road Initiative, tightened political control, and the removal of presidential term limits in 2018, cementing his power as China’s most dominant leader since Mao Zedong.
