Israel targeted the journalists’ tent in Gaza, killing 5, including Al Jazeera correspondents Anas Al-Sharif and Mohammad Qariqa along with Ibrahim Daher, Mohamed Noufal and Moamen Aliwa. Israeli officials accused Al-Sharif of being a member of Hamas’ military wing, in an attempt to preemptively justify his murder.

Only 40 minutes before his assassination, Anas posted a message, warning “If this madness does not end, Gaza will be reduced to ruins, its people’s voices silenced.”

Faris states, “now it’s up to us, to carry on the work that he and his fellow journalists have been doing in Gaza.” In Anas’ final message and will which he instructed to be published upon his martyrdom, he stated, “I entrust you with Palestine, the jewel in the crown of Muslims, the beating heart of every free person in this world…I urge you not to let chains silence you or borders hold you back.”

Israel has killed over 230 journalists in its genocidal war on Gaza.
