A federal appeals court, ruling in favor of President Donald Trump, announced today that it is dismissing the contempt order issued by a federal judge in connection with the deportations of Venezuelan gang members to El Salvador.

In April, federal judge James Boasberg had ruled that there was sufficient probable cause to hold the White House in contempt for deporting these illegal immigrants under the Alien Enemies Act of 1798. However, the appeals court concluded that Boasberg exceeded his authority when issuing that order, marking a legal victory for the Trump administration in its deportation policy.
