Alex Padilla: The vast majority of people who are being arrested, detained, and deported are the same people that so many families trust to care for our children, trust to care for our elderly parents.

You know, they are the people who are preparing and serving meals in restaurants, who are harvesting fruits and vegetables and packaging meat in factories that, you know, we rely on to put food on the table at home.

Democratic Senator Alex Padilla publicly defended illegal immigrants who also work without authorization in the United States. He argued that the majority of those who are arrested, detained, or deported are people whom many families trust to care for their children and elderly parents, as well as to perform essential jobs such as preparing and serving meals in restaurants, harvesting fruits and vegetables, or packing meat in factories. Padilla framed his stance as a defense of the role these individuals play in the economy and daily life, despite the fact that their presence and employment violate the country’s immigration and labor laws.
