Storm 'Floris' Brings Record Winds and Chaos to the UK
On August 4th, a rare and unusually powerful summer storm, Floris, struck the north of the United Kingdom. It affected Scotland, parts of northern England, Northern Ireland, and northern Wales.
Wind gusts reached up to one hundred miles per hour, and in the Scottish Highlands, up to one hundred thirty-four miles per hour — speeds almost unheard of at this time of year.
Tens of thousands of homes were left without electricity. Repair work was hindered by the ongoing severe weather, and helicopters were deployed to provide assistance.
The strong winds brought down trees and power lines, forcing the closure of some roads as well as key bridges such as the Tyne and the Forth.
Rail operators had to reduce train speeds or halt services altogether.
Airlines canceled about 150 flights. Two planes, unable to land in Aberdeen due to high winds, were forced to return to their departure airports, flying nearly nine hundred thirty miles in vain.
Ferry services along Scotland’s west coast were also disrupted, leaving many vacationers and local residents stranded.
For the first time in seventy-five years, the famous Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo — a symbol of the city — was canceled. Due to dangerous conditions, many Edinburgh Festival venues, including the iconic Pleasance Courtyard and the city’s zoo, were closed.
A combination of dense foliage on trees, large crowds of tourists during the bank holiday, and numerous outdoor events made the high winds of Storm Floris particularly hazardous for both residents and visitors in the United Kingdom.
Around the world, the situation with natural disasters is changing rapidly, with the pace of escalation so high that anomalies are intensifying before our very eyes. Contrary to the expectations of many specialists, who predicted a gradual and smooth increase in disasters over several more decades, the international scientific community AllatRa, based on interdisciplinary and comprehensive analysis, developed a model showing an exponential trend in the growth of climate-related catastrophes in the very near future.
We are now seeing confirmation of this model almost daily. In a new and highly important report, one of AllatRa’s scientists, Dr. Egon Cholakian, made a significant forecast regarding seismic and volcanic activity on the planet in the coming years and revealed the true causes of the powerful magnitude 8.8 earthquake on the Kamchatka Peninsula.
