Irate Father’s Disturbing Encounter With His Family Backfires

On April 5th, 2024, Officers were dispatched to a disturbance at a home in Oak Lawn, Illinois. Officers recognized the address from previous incidents where an order of protection was served. They were advised that the offender was inside damaging items in the house and that he left in a black Mercedes sedan. Officer Kuchay was driving through the area, observed the black Mercedes leaving the area, and made a stop on the vehicle to investigate a violation of an order of protection.

Officer Lupa spoke with the victim, who is the offender's ex-wife, at the home. The victim said she was in the home getting ready to do laundry when she saw the offender walking through the home out of the corner of her eye. She did not invite the offender inside, and he did not knock before entering. She said she yelled to her daughter, who was in the basement, to call the police. She then pulled her phone out and recorded the offender walking through the home. She stated the offender began yelling at her and was also recording her while doing so. She said she continued to record the offender because "if he killed me, at least it would be on video." The victim advised she and her son are both protected parties on the Order of Protection, and the residence is the protected address. Responding officers found that the OOP was issued on 05/18/2023 and was served by short-form notification on 11/13/2023. The protection order is valid until the final judgment in the divorce proceeding, and the final judgment in the divorce proceeding was on the same day of this incident. The victim signed one complaint for the offender allegedly damaging items in the residence, and he was arrested and transported to lockup without incident. The police report indicates he was charged with violating the protection order and resisting/obstructing an officer.
