Beeping Fire Alarms 🚨 Before Move-In?! Here’s Why It Matters🔋…

I arrived at this property to get it ready for the new tenants — and immediately heard the dreaded low battery beep from the fire alarms.
In North Carolina (and in most states), it’s required that the landlord or property manager ensures all smoke detectors are working before a tenant moves in.
⚠️ Once the tenant takes possession, it becomes their responsibility to replace the batteries and maintain the alarms.
Here’s the issue:
The previous tenants (who were evicted) didn’t replace the batteries before leaving.
Now, it’s on us to fix it before move-in day.
This isn’t just a minor annoyance — it’s a legal and safety requirement.
As property managers, it’s our job to:
✅ Ensure the home is safe and compliant before handing over keys
✅ Handle small details like smoke alarm batteries before they turn into big problems
✅ Deliver the property in move-in ready condition so the lease starts off right
This is the unglamorous, but critical side of property management — the stuff tenants might not notice when it’s done right… but will definitely notice when it’s not.
Let’s go!
