This video shows some of the last remaining productive (anthropogenically shaped) old growth hickory/oak forest of southern Ontario. I talk about the potentials of Hickory trees in modern day agriculture, their history, cultural significance and I describe an essay I wrote (linked above) which offers an analysis of how nature, the state of the soil, old growth forests and the words we use to refer to our fellow beings can tell us a lot about the maturity of the culture that we live in.
