This sidra - Deuteronomy Chapter 11 verses 26 through Chapter 16 verse 17 - really is one of those portions where the Torah smacks you with both open-handed blessing and closed-fist severity. Perhaps from our 21st-century moral framework and perspective, some parts are deeply moving while others are eyebrow-raising at best, chilling at worst. But it’s precisely that tension that makes it worth a very extensive investigation as we probe into the words of Moshe.
