Set in 1983, the story follows the Warrens as they face their most dangerous and personal case to date. It all begins when a family in suburban Massachusetts contacts the Warrens after experiencing increasingly violent phenomena after acquiring an ancient church relic at auction. They soon discover that the relic is linked to a Satanic cult that disbanded decades ago, which practiced extreme rituals to summon an ancient entity known as Malphas, a demon linked to the desecration of the sacred.
