AT&T Backlash

AT&T just made it official: workplace loyalty is dead.
After an internal employee engagement survey showed how unhappy the staff really were, CEO John Stankey didn’t sugarcoat anything. Instead of acknowledging concerns, he fired back with a memo that basically said: “Don’t expect job security, flexible work, or promotions just because you’ve been here a long time.”
In the memo, he told leadership that employees no longer serve company loyalty — and the company won’t serve it back. He made it clear: if you’re not aligned with the new market-driven direction, this probably isn’t the place for you. In his words, “get on board or get out.”
This is a huge cultural shift. For decades, companies preached loyalty, long-term careers, and internal promotion. That playbook is being tossed. Fast.
So here’s the question:
Are we entering a future where every job is just a transaction?
