👇 Tonights Watch Party will be Stand and Deliver (1988) is based on the true story of Jaime Escalante, a charismatic and determined math teacher at Garfield High School in East Los Angeles. Faced with a classroom full of underachieving students from disadvantaged backgrounds, Escalante refuses to accept low expectations. Through unorthodox methods, humor, and relentless discipline, he inspires his students to believe in themselves and aim for something higher — the Advanced Placement Calculus exam. The film captures the clash between Escalante’s vision and the systemic barriers of poverty, cultural prejudice, and institutional skepticism.

As the students rise to the challenge, they achieve remarkable results, but their success is met with suspicion. When the Educational Testing Service accuses them of cheating due to their backgrounds and improbable improvement, the students must retake the exam under scrutiny to prove their achievement was real. Stand and Deliver is both an uplifting underdog story and a sharp commentary on how societal bias can undermine genuine accomplishment.
