Kiro, the River Hunter, Tells of Having to Adapt to Progress in the African Wilderness

I was born on the banks of a wide river, where the water was as much a part of life as the air we breathed. My earliest memories are of misty mornings, casting nets with my father, and learning from my mother which plants could feed or heal. We lived from the land and water, sharing them with every creature.

As I grew, farmers came, carving the land into fields and building homes that stayed year-round. I thought the wild would vanish, but the deer still roamed, the fish still swam, and the forests still offered their gifts. I adapted, hunting near the fields and trading my catches for bread, grain, and tools.

A copper smith named Aren once hired me to guide him to ore in the hills. In return, I gained copper hooks and blades that made my work sharper and faster. I began traveling farther along the river, trading smoked fish and wild meat for pottery, cloth, and goods from distant villages.

The river is still my road, carrying me to new people and new ideas. I teach the young to listen to its current and respect its balance. As long as it flows, I will follow it—it is the thread that ties my life together.
