Man accused of killing Minnesota lawmaker pleads not guilty to murder charges

Vance Boelter, 58, pleaded not guilty Thursday to federal charges in the June 14 killings of Minnesota state Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark Hortman.

He faces six federal counts, including murder, firearms violations, and stalking, and could face the death penalty if convicted.

Authorities say Boelter was heavily armed, disguised in tactical gear and a mask, and had been planning the politically motivated attack for some time.

He also faces state charges in the wounding of state Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, NBC News has reported.

The case involves extensive evidence, and no trial date has been set yet.
