South Africa’s economy is on the brink — and our government is acting far too late. On August 1st, heavy US tariffs officially came into effect, hitting key sectors like manufacturing, shipping, and soon, agriculture. President Cyril Ramaphosa finally called Donald Trump — after the damage began — but the talks produced nothing concrete. Contracts worth R750 million were canceled on day one, Maersk shut down direct shipping routes, and our growth outlook is now effectively wiped out. With unemployment at record highs, the rand in decline, and years of bad economic policy since Jacob Zuma’s presidency, South Africa faces a perfect economic storm. In this video, I break down the real data, the government’s empty promises, and why these tariffs could push us over the edge.
