A 17-year-old is dead and two others are injured after a police chase ended in a fiery crash in Milwaukee’s Lincoln Park neighborhood.

The crash happened around 7:15 p.m. Wednesday near 19th Place and Hampton Avenue.

Milwaukee police say the incident began when officers attempted to pull over a vehicle for reckless driving, that was wanted in connection to a felony case. The driver, identified only as a 17-year-old, refused to stop, prompting a short pursuit. The chase ended when the vehicle crashed and burst into flames.

Witnesses captured dramatic video showing the car fully engulfed in flames, with fire spreading to a nearby tree.

Police taped off the area as crews worked into the night. One neighbor tells 12 News that high-speed driving is common on Hampton.

“Hopefully they’ll add some speed bumps or more stoplights, but that’s not going to stop a car chase,” Duncan Mason said. “More attention needs to be placed here.”

Milwaukee firefighters confirmed two other people were taken to the hospital following the crash, but police have not said how they were involved or released their names.

Authorities say the 17-year-old driver was the only person inside the fleeing vehicle. The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet released the driver's name.
