Eight people, including two senior ministers, have died in a tragic military helicopter crash in Ghana's Ashanti region. Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Braham Murtala Muhammed were en route to an anti-illegal mining event when the aircraft went down in a forest near Obuasi. Also among the dead were top security officials and the vice-chairman of the ruling NDC party. President John Mahama has declared three days of national mourning. The crash, which comes amid growing regional security and environmental challenges, is under investigation by the Ghanaian Armed Forces. No survivors were reported.
