A violent midnight hailstorm accompanied by fierce winds has struck Bishoftu, a city in Ethiopia's Oromia region, leaving a trail of destruction across residential neighborhoods.

The unexpected storm, which swept through the city late Monday night, caused significant damage to homes, infrastructure, and trees, triggering panic among residents but fortunately sparing lives.

Eyewitness accounts and reports from local media confirmed that the storm was one of the most intense in recent memory, especially in the stretch between Webete Fanta and the Ethiopian Air Force base, where the wind’s fury ripped off rooftops and battered electric poles to the ground.

Filseta: The Fast of the Assumption of St. Mary

Filseta is one of the seven canonized fasts of the Tewahdo church, which is observed as a remembrance of the fast the apostles held in passion of witnessing the falling asleep and assumption of Saint Maryam (Mary). It covers the period from the 1st to the 15th of Nehasie (August 7-22). Filseta literally means movement in the Ge’ez language, and is used to refer to St. Mary’s assumption.
