Do Nations Succeed Through Their Military Strength Alone?

Brothers, sisters, friends and elders Assalamu Alaikum, wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu, we are presenting the 129th episode of the Islamic informative video based on healing and events from the Holy Quran, and in this video we will describe,Do Nations Succeed Through Their Military Strength Alone?

In a world where power is often equated with military might, it is crucial to examine this assumption through the lens of the Qur’an and the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). While military strength has its place in defending justice and maintaining order, the Qur’an makes it abundantly clear that true success for nations is not determined by weapons, numbers, or strategy alone, but rather by faith, righteousness, unity, and divine support. History, as reflected in the Qur’an, has repeatedly shown that nations with vast armies have crumbled due to internal corruption, moral decay, and arrogance, whereas small and seemingly weak communities have triumphed through their reliance on Allah and their adherence to truth.

A vivid example of this is seen in Surah Al-Anfal verse 26, where Allah recounts the events of the Battle of Badr—a foundational moment in Islamic history. The Muslims were vastly outnumbered and poorly equipped, yet they achieved a stunning victory. Allah says:

“And already had Allah given you victory at Badr while you were few in number. Then fear Allah; perhaps you will be grateful.”

This verse is a powerful reminder that numerical or military superiority is not the true cause of victory. Rather, it was the taqwa (God-consciousness) and unity of the Muslims, coupled with divine help, that led to success.

Another important verse 17 in the same Surah Surah Al-Anfal reinforces this point:

“And you did not kill them, but it was Allah who killed them. And you threw not, [O Muhammad], when you threw, but it was Allah who threw, that He might test the believers with a good test. Indeed, Allah is Hearing and Knowing.”

Here, Allah reminds the believers that ultimate power and victory come from Him, not from swords, arrows, or strategies. This shows that military efforts must be rooted in divine obedience and ethical conduct, or they are bound to fail in the long term.

Even during war, the Qur'an stresses qualities in Surah Al-Anfal verse 45, such as patience, unity, and reliance on Allah over material strength:

“O you who believe! When you meet a force, be firm and remember Allah much, so that you may be successful.”

In contrast, history is filled with examples of nations that relied solely on their military dominance, only to collapse due to internal injustice and arrogance. The Qur'an highlights the downfall of powerful peoples like Pharaoh and his army, who were known for their military might:

(Surah Al-Qasas, verse 40)
“So We took him and his soldiers and threw them into the sea. So see how was the end of the wrongdoers.”

The Prophet Muhammad(PBUH) also warned against trusting military power without righteousness. In an authentic hadith, Musnad Ahmad, Hadith 12549, he said:

“A nation that commits injustice will not survive.”

Moreover, he (PBUH) said in Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith 2896:

“Help the weak among you, for you are only given provision and help because of the weak among you.”

This hadith emphasizes that the strength of a nation lies not in its weapons, but in how it treats its weakest members. A society that cares for justice, equity, and its people will enjoy the blessings and help of Allah—even if materially it seems weaker.

In essence, military power is a tool—not the foundation—of a successful nation**. When detached from moral responsibility, it becomes a source of destruction rather than protection. The Qur'an and Sunnah both emphasize that victory is a divine gift, granted to those who uphold justice, truth, and submission to Allah.

In conclusion, nations do not succeed through military strength alone. The true foundations of lasting success are found in faith, righteousness, unity, humility, and reliance on Allah. Military might may win battles, but it is only through obedience to divine principles that nations win lasting peace, prosperity, and honor.

With this, we ask for your permission until tomorrow and pray to Allah Almighty to grant us the ability to act on the Quran and Hadith, Amen

Allah Hafiz
