Rescue mission intensifies after deadly flash floods hit India's Uttarakhand state

Flash floods and mudslides have struck India's Himalayan state of Uttarakhand, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake.
At least five people have been killed and over 100 are missing, including soldiers involved in rescue operations. The popular tourist town of Dharali bore the brunt of the disaster when a mountainside collapsed.
Rescue teams are battling treacherous conditions, using ziplines to cross swollen rivers where bridges once stood, while heavy machinery clears boulder-strewn roads.
Uttarakhand's Chief Minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami, conducted an aerial survey of the affected areas, highlighting the challenges faced by rescue teams due to damaged infrastructure and adverse weather. This latest catastrophe underscores the region's increasing vulnerability to extreme weather events, which experts link to climate change.
As search and rescue efforts continue, authorities are grappling with the grim task of reaching remote villages cut off by the floods.
