On this episode of Let’s Chat with Veterans, we highlight Company Sergeant Major George Rider of A Company, 2nd Battalion, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry. Born in Hackney in 1907, George was a seasoned soldier who braved India, Burma, Dunkirk, and ultimately the skies above Normandy. On June 6, 1944, he landed in a Horsa glider on LZ‑W near Saint-Aubin-d’Arquenay, helping secure the Orne River bridges and hold Herouvillette. George later fought through the Ardennes and took part in Operation Varsity, the Rhine Crossing. At 37 years old he was one of the most experienced men in his unit, leading by example during some of the war's most intense moments.

Join us as we delve into his D‑Day descent, hear glowing letters he wrote to his wife, and reflect on the path from glider landings to victory in Germany.
