Sick of stupid rules? You're not alone - and now, one backyard shed is helping change the law. New legislation means small garden sheds and sleepouts will soon be allowed right up to the boundary in many cases no consent or neighbour consultation needed.

The current law, which required backyard buildings to be as far from the fence as they are tall, is being ditched as part of the coalition's red tape reform push. Lloyd Burr reports on how a simple seven-square-metre shed - technically illegal - became the poster child for common sense and a photo op for Acting Prime Minister David Seymour and Building Minister Chris Penk.
