This action was highlighted by the HUD Secretary, who stated that it was achieved thanks to the leadership of President Donald Trump and the efforts of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which was created to review contracts, eliminate unnecessary spending, and streamline processes. According to Turner, the goal is to demonstrate that the administration is acting as a good steward of taxpayer money.

These cuts are part of a broader federal government strategy to reduce spending and improve efficiency, and are included in a coordinated effort by DOGE across various agencies. The canceled or renegotiated contracts cover administrative areas such as consulting services, leases, and signage.
