Philippines' Marcos Jr In India to Meet PM Modi, Talks on Defence, China Likely | Spotlight | N18G

Filipino President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Junior is on a five-day state visit to India. He will meet Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar today. However, his visit will formally begin with a ceremonial reception at the Rashtrapati Bhavan tomorrow. Later, in the day, President Marcos Junior will call on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The two leaders will hold delegation-level talks. Both sides will sign multiple agreements and Memorandums of Understanding. The Filipino president will also call on the Indian President, Droupadi Murmu. The visit is focused on strengthening maritime cooperation between the two countries. Both India and the Philippines strongly support freedom of navigation in the South China Sea. Manila needs the naval strength to conquer the growing Chinese threat in the South China Sea. India and the Philippines also staged joint naval exercises in the disputed South China Sea for the first time. The Filipino president’s visit will also focus on trade ties between the two countries.
