This is the basis for John Newtons Hymn "Amazing Grace". The Pharisee's told the man that Christ was born in sin. We are all born in sin since the fall and only through Christ do we receive our sight spiritually. The disciples asked Christ who had sinned the man or his parents. The answer neither. The purpose was that through the blindness God may be made clear to us. The purpose of miracles is that God and Christ are made clear to us. This man was blind and had to defend His new sight to the leadership. They wanted to arrest Christ for healing on the sabbath. This blind man defended Christ and became a believer. He gained sight both physically and spiritually. We gain our sight spiritually when we accepted Christ. We once we were blind but now we see. Thank You Lord. Where do you stand today. In Blindness or in Sight ? The Lord loves the sinner, but hates His sin. Let Him reveal Himself to you through Salvation and faith.
