Ukraine says defence sector corruption scheme uncovered

Ukrainian authorities have arrested several officials, including a lawmaker and National Guard members, over a major corruption scheme involving inflated contracts for military drones and signal jamming systems.

The arrests come shortly after Ukraine’s parliament restored the independence of its main anti-corruption agencies, following public backlash against President Zelenskyy’s attempt to bring them under his control.

Zelenskyy later reversed course, and the move was welcomed by Ukraine’s European allies concerned about the country’s EU membership prospects, Al-Jazeera has reported.

Zelenskyy praised the anti-corruption agencies for their latest actions.
